How to Store Your Kratom to Get the Best Out of It

If you’re like most Kratom buyers, you will have spent a great deal of time and effort making sure that the growing and processing of the product is to a high standard. You’ll have checked out various vendors, looked at reviews, and learnt at least a little about which strains are best for you and why.

But the quality control doesn’t stop there. Once you have your Kratom in your hands, its quality and efficacy all depends on you.

Knowing how and where to store your Kratom is essential if you want to get the best out of it, so we’ve compiled an easy-to-understand guide to the best storage options to prevent your precious product from degrading and losing its potency.

Keep it at a Consistent Temperature

Most homes go through periods of hot and periods of cold – if, for example, you’re out at work all day and the house is empty, it’s likely to be cold as there’s no point heating an empty house. Once you come home you put the heating on so the place is warm and cozy. While that’s good for you, it’s not so good for your Kratom.

Kratom doesn’t need to be refrigerated, but it is best if it is kept at a consistently cool temperature. If you have a basement that will work well, or if not try and work out which room is the coolest and make it a haven for your stash.

Avoid Sunlight

Okay, so Kratom might be grown in South East Asia, but that doesn’t mean that the finished product likes the sun. In fact, exposing your Kratom to sunlight during storage is likely to degrade it pretty quickly, which will lead to a disappointing experience for you as you won’t get the full effects you were hoping for.

Find a cupboard, closet, drawer or box to keep your Kratom in, and you will find that it stays fresh for much longer. It’s not like a vampire where the merest hint of sunlight will make it disintegrate, though; as long as you keep it tucked away for the majority of time, it will be fine.

Smells Spell Trouble

Keep your powder as far away from potent smells as possible, or you may find that you end up with garlic-infused product! Surprisingly, the fridge is actually a fairly safe way to store Kratom if you have no other cool dark place (don’t forget the light goes out once the door is shut), but unless it is kept in a totally airtight, sealed container, it will take on the odors – and possibly the flavors – of strong-smelling foodstuffs.

Keep it Airtight

Talking of airtight containers, it’s imperative that you use one for your Kratom. Too much exposure to the air will cause it to go stale, which will not only change the taste but it will also make it lose its potency.

If you are storing the Kratom long-term – i.e. not for immediate use – you won’t go far wrong with a vacuum-sealed bag, but if you’re not stashing it, you will be fine with a normal plastic bag, or a plastic or glass container.

Avoid Moisture

Getting your Kratom even a tiny bit damp can spell disaster for the entire hoard, because once moisture gets in it can quickly turn to mold, in which case it will need to be binned.

As we’ve said before, keep your supply in an airtight container, and away from rooms or places that are prone to condensation, such as the bathroom or a kitchen cupboard above the stove top, for example.

Keep it Out of Reach

This should go without saying, but make sure you keep your Kratom well away from children, pets, or anyone for whom it’s not intended.

But There’s More…

How you store your Kratom also depends on how and when you’re going to use it. So for instance, if you want to make tea with it, that will keep in the fridge for a good 5 days or so, as long as it’s kept in a suitably airtight container and kept towards the back of the fridge.

If you keep it any longer it will lose both taste and potency.

On the other hand, if you want to buy in bulk and keep the powder long term, it’s well worth splitting the powder into small airtight bags which will hold enough for a few days, and then keep all of those bags in one larger airtight container or bag. That way, you can just remove enough for a few days without risking the remaining amounts. As long as you follow these simple guidelines, you will get the most out of your Kratom and not risk ruining any, meaning your hoard is as fresh when you use it as it was when you first bought it.
